This newly created role will play a critical role in driving health, safety, and wellbeing excellence across multiple work sites. We’re looking for a dynamic WHS Manager who thrives on collaboration, innovation, and delivering real results.
As the WHS Manager, you’ll lead the strategic direction and operational execution of our workplace health and safety programs. You'll work closely with leadership and employees to foster a proactive safety culture, ensure legislative compliance, and drive continuous improvement through innovative safety initiatives.
More about the role:
Based in either Launceston or Hobart, the Workplace Health and Safety Manager reports to the Chief Operations Officer and has one direct report. Key elements of the role include:
- Lead development of initiatives that promote a safety-first mindset across all services
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement in WHS practices by reviewing incidents, audits findings and stakeholder feedback to identify areas of systemic improvement
- Ensure consistent and effective delivery of WHS services across all services including monitoring compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation
- Oversee WHS risk management initiatives, incident/injury frameworks, and return-to-work plans to ensure proactive hazard identification and mitigation
- Ensure onboarding processes include WHS induction and role specific safety education for all new employees
- Conduct and lead regular safety audits, site inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions
- Conduct regular risk assessments across all services and implement hazard identification and control measures where necessary to reduce identified risk
- Manage workers’ compensation claims, liaising with insurers, medical professionals, and employees for efficient resolution
- Monitor and report on trends in incident data and workers’ compensation claims, identifying opportunities for risk reduction and cost management
- Ensure compliance with psychological hazard management in line with legislative reform including prevention of bullying, harassment and occupational violence
What you bring to the role:
Essential
- Relevant formal qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety (e.g., Diploma or Certificate IV in WHS, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience in a WHS leadership or management role, preferably within the healthcare sector
- In-depth knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, regulations, and industry standards
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, leading incident investigations, and facilitating safety audits
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence individuals at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate safety programs and initiatives
- Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Highly developed mediation, negotiation, and facilitation skills
- A valid Australian driver’s licence and willingness to travel between sites as required.
Desirable:
- Strong ICT skills, with proficiency in HR systems and reporting tools
- A working knowledge of Aged Care and its unique principles
